On Saturday 20th October at 7:30pm, Small Spaces Theatre Company will be holding a special performance of ‘My Dearest Kate’, an adaptation of the play written by Ellie Dickens and starring our own Marianne Gaston, of St Andrew’s. The performance will be held at the church and all proceeds will go to local charity TIC+ (Teens in Crisis) to support their work providing counselling for children, young people and their families in Gloucestershire.
“My Dearest Kate” tells the true story of Catherine Dickens, wife of journalist, novelist and playwright Charles Dickens, through letters exchanged between herself, Charles, friends and family.
The couple were married in 1836 in London, legally separated in 1858, but never divorced. After 10 children, Charles forced Catherine to leave their home alleging she was mentally ill and unfit as a wife and mother. On her deathbed, Catherine requested that her collection of the letters from Charles were given to The British Museum so that the world would know her story and the Charles she knew.
TIC+ are enormously grateful to everyone who is making this possible, especially Marianne and St Andrews. To add to the occasion, there will be a Q&A session with author Ellie Dickens following the performance. And to mark the start of TIC+’s 25th birthday celebrations, members of the audience will have an opportunity to find out more about the history of the charity.
Tickets cost £10 each including refreshments and can be reserved by visiting https://tic.charitycheckout.co.uk/cf/My-Dearest-Kate
